The technical requirements for forming depend on a wide range of variables such as: the press, body, format, tile surface, line production output... to name just a few.
Decades of experience carrying out projects all over the world under the most varied conditions have given Sacmi M&D the expertise to guarantee customers the best technical choice, type of mould and set-up.

Mould for the production of special pieces characterised by major plane or 3D geometric complexity.

Lower Universal Bases for Forming

Universal Bases for Forming

Universal Bases for Molds & Dies

The Universal base is a device which is placed between the press with its knockout and the shaped part of the die. Available in 4 different sizes according to the maxiumum depth of the format they will house, this device has become extremely useful to speed up size change-over operations thus reducing the weights to be handled and the cost of the investment when purchasing the die-sets: a universal base installed in each press can house an infinite number of different sized die-set kits. The bases are available both for dies with hideaway punches and for filler-box die-sets (mirror, SFS).

Floating Module

Floating Module / Monocaliber Isostatic Plate

The floating modules are passive systems designed to balance the average force bearing down on each cavity of the die. These devices owe their name to the fact that the supports of the forming punches "float" on oil. Regardless of the quantity of spray-dried powder and grain size of the material in each cavity, during pressing, a spontaneous transfer of the oil takes place from the cavity where the pressure tries to rise towards cavities with a lower pressure. The result is an unprecedented degree of uniformity of the average density of the pressed material between the cavities and therefore an even level of shrinkage during firing leading to a reduction or even elimination of sorting grades.

PEM - PMP plates for moulds

Electro-Magnetic and Permanent Magnetic Plates

PEM Electro-Magnetic Plates - PMP Permanent Magnetic Plates

The top punches for die-sets with hide-away punches are always locked in place thanks to the use of magnetic plates. These are available in several sizes and differ according to the technology with which the magnetic field is generated: electric coils constantly powered for the electro-magnetic plates (PEM) or permanent magnets for the permanent magnet plates (PMP). The PEM are the traditional solution selected over the years but recently they are being gradually replaced by the PMP due to the capacity of the latter to guarantee better performance in holding the punches in a locked position under any operating conditions and due to the improved energy efficiency. The PMP require external energy only during magnetizing and de-magnetizing stages while, during the work process, no power supply is required.

Plates

The plates are wear & tear parts used to form the sides of the tile. Made of special hardened steel designed for tools, these plates are available both in a whole version and in a version with rigid metal insert. The former cost less and are more convenient to use, the latter are more expensive but more robust. One or other version is chosen according to the typical formats and dimensions of the production lots.

Punches

The punches are wear & tear parts which are used to form the surfaces of the tiles. They are made up of a combination of steels, metal alloy materials resistant to wear and polymers and they are among the most critical pieces of equipment of all in determining the quality of the tile surface and much of the quality of the edges.
